November
2008
The
Year is moving along smoothly - it's hard to believe it is
already November. Our staff have been busy implementing a
new writing initiative for the entire school. Mrs. Paton,
our Literacy Coach, has been instrumental in working with
our staff. As you can see from the following information,
we are a very busy school.
SPORTS:
Members of the cross-country team represented Rosedale well
in the city meet held October 14th at Canatara Park.
Congratulations to all of you.
The Senior Boys and Senior Girls Volleyball Teams are now up
and running.
KOREAN
STUDENTS:
Rosedale Public School again has the opportunity to host a
number of Korean students for the months of January and
February. The experience has been very positive for
students, parents and staff. If you are interested in
becoming a homestay parent for one of our visiting students
please contact the school office or telephone Jasmine
Lenuzzi, Homestay Coordinator for more information. (See
flyer for contact information.)
HEALTH
AND SAFETY:
· As winter approaches, the evenings and mornings are
becoming much cooler. Please remind your children to dress
in warm clothing. Don't forget your hats and gloves!
· Community Health Services will be here on Tuesday,
November 25th at 9:00 a.m. to administer Flu Shots.
REPORT
CARDS:
Report cards will be sent home and Parent/Teacher Interviews
will take place during the first week of December.
NEWS
FROM ROSEDALE PARENT COUNCIL:
The Rosedale Parent Council has recently set up an email
contact list. For anyone on the list, we will be sending
emails outlining Council news as well as special events we
are organizing.
The sign up sheets for this list were first available at the
Meet the Teacher Night. For those of you who did not have a
chance to sign up, or if your email address has changed,
please email us at rosedale.parentcouncil_info@yahoo.com, we
will be happy to add your name to our contact list. Please
keep your eye out for upcoming announcements.
For the month of November, our first fundraising event of
the year will be wrapping up. The order forms for our
Greeting Card Fundraiser will be due on November 3, 2008.
All of the money raised from this event will go toward the
purchase of SMART Boards for the school. Eventually, we
would like to see a SMART Board in every classroom.
Our next Council Meeting is scheduled for November 19, 2008
at 6:00 p.m. in the staff room. Remember, we are offering
free child care for parents who wish to attend this meeting.
One agenda item will be further discussion on ideas for
lobbying the Lambton Kent District School Board for a new
gym.
Thank you to all who were able to volunteer for our October
Hot Lunch. We appreciate your time. Without your
assistance, these days would not be possible. If you are
interested in helping to organize a hot lunch or would like
to find out what is involved with this, please leave a
message for me at the office. I would be happy to talk with
you. As well, if you are unable to volunteer your time
during the day, there are lots of opportunities to help out
in the evening.

MILK
PROGRAM:
This is simply a reminder that milk is available at school
each lunch hour. You can order a milk card for your
student. The cost is $15.00 for 20 milks. You may purchase
either white or chocolate milk.
DRILLS:
Here at Rosedale we continually strive to maintain a safe
environment for all in our building. We carry out fire
drills several times a year, and practice Tornado drills
from time to time. In addition to this we will be practicing
our Code Green, Yellow and Red protocols. Teachers will
teach students ahead of the drills what their response
should be. If you wish to see the poster it is displayed in
our front hallway.
LATES:
While most of our students arrive at school on time and
ready to work we have quite a few students who are
experiencing difficulty arriving on time every day.
Promptness is a life skill that is important for us all to
develop.
Here at Rosedale we want to celebrate those students who
arrive on time, and at the same time develop strategies with
those students who have difficulty being punctual.
Right now students sign in at the office if they are late.
They will continue to do that. However, that morning they
will report to the office at recess and we will discuss
strategies to help them be successful. If a student is late
twice in a term they will be asked to make up the time they
are late, and if they are late three times we will be
contacting parents to ask for your support in helping your
child to arrive at school on time every day.
We are looking forward to your support in helping all our
students to arrive on time every day.
FALL
BOOK FAIR 2008:
Our Fall Book Fair will be held in the school gym from
Wednesday, November 5th to Tuesday, November 11th. The
theme is "Pyramid of Books". Student brochures and a
timetable have been sent home with each student.
Our Book Fair Family Night will be held Wednesday, November
5th. Please come and visit us between 5:00-8:00 p.m.! See
you there!
REMEMBRANCE
DAY:
Our Remembrance Day Service at the school will be
celebrated, Nov. 11th beginning at 10:40 a.m. The Service
will be presented by our students on the P.A. system.
REMINDERS:
Please remember that the School's doors are locked after
school. For safety reasons, our custodians cannot unlock the
doors for parents returning to retrieve forgotten homework
assignments and materials. Thank you for your
consideration.
PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT DAY:
Friday, November 28th, is a P.D. day for teachers. Students
do not attend classes on this day. Teachers will be engaged
in onsite curriculum planning in the morning and will attend
a curriculum presentation in the afternoon.
SCHOOL
POLICY:
No student will be denied an educational experience because
of lack of funds. Should any parent have difficulty with
fees charged for any trip, simply call the Principal to make
alternative arrangements. This will be done in the
strictest confidence.
